- Prepare the Balsamic Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine the balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly and reduced in volume by about half. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- Assemble the Salad: Arrange alternating slices of tomato and mozzarella on a large plate or platter.
- Tuck fresh basil leaves between the slices of tomato and mozzarella.
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. If using, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- Drizzle the balsamic glaze evenly over the salad.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer flavor, use high-quality balsamic vinegar. You can also add other ingredients such as cherry tomatoes, roasted red peppers, or artichoke hearts.
