Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 Large Oranges
  • 4 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips Or dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or your preference!
  • 1 tablespoon Sprinkles Optional, for decoration
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Nuts Optional, for decoration
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt Optional, for decoration

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wire rack
  • Sharp Knife
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Slotted spoon

Method

Instructions
  1. Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Add orange slices to the syrup, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Simmer gently for 1 hour, or until translucent and tender, turning occasionally.
  4. Remove slices with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool and air dry for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight.
  5. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, use a double boiler.
  6. Dip each orange slice halfway or completely into the melted chocolate. Add sprinkles, nuts, or sea salt (optional). Place back on the rack to set.
  7. Once chocolate has hardened, store candied orange slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the syrup. Experiment with different types of sprinkles and nuts for unique decorations.
