Instructions
- Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add orange slices to the syrup, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Simmer gently for 1 hour, or until translucent and tender, turning occasionally.
- Remove slices with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool and air dry for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight.
- Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, use a double boiler.
- Dip each orange slice halfway or completely into the melted chocolate. Add sprinkles, nuts, or sea salt (optional). Place back on the rack to set.
- Once chocolate has hardened, store candied orange slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the syrup. Experiment with different types of sprinkles and nuts for unique decorations.
