  • 1 4 cup Packed Light Brown Sugar

  • 1 2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 4 teaspoon Ground Allspice
  • 1 4 cup Lemon Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Cut into small pieces
  • 1 recipe Pie Crust Use your favorite recipe or store-bought crust.

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Stir in the lemon juice. This helps prevent the apples from browning and adds a bright flavor.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate.
  5. Dot the top of the apple mixture with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Place the top crust over the filling, crimp the edges to seal, and cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let cool completely before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. You can also add a tablespoon of vanilla extract to the filling for extra warmth. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
