- Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, peanut butter, and butter. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt (if using).
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, stirring vigorously until a smooth, thick mixture forms. This will require some effort!
- Stir in the chocolate chips (if using) until melted and evenly distributed.
- Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
- Lift the fudge out of the dish using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate chips. Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
